MESSAGE OF INVITATION TO THE XXXI IULTCS  CONGRES

On October 14th 2009, with the excellent Clossing Ceremony of the XXX Congress of the International Union  of Leather Technologists & Chemists Societies, and after an excellent organization of the Congress by the China Leather Industry Association (CLIA), the organization of the XXXI Congress to be held in Valencia (Spain) on September 27th-30th 2011 started.

As President of the Spanish Chemical Association of Leather Industry (AQEIC), organizing the Congress, it is a pleasure for me to invite all the professionals of our sector to this event.

We are aware of the world context, immersed in a economical and social crisis, but we have to face it, each with the “arms” available to him. Our sector has always been seen by different social agents, for an old idea, that was true then, of being “little environmentally friendly”.

Thanks to the technological effort of all involved in the leather business, because we believe in it, the environmental impact of our industry has been enormously minimized, and we are converting a waste in a valuable material, “leather”.

The different Congresses that our sector organizes, are useful for a needed exchange of knowledge and new technologies. The biannual Congress of the IULTCS is the highest event for this professional meeting of fellow mates, were the worries and technological advances in their different areas are presented. 

Leather will never end, and we have to give the knowledge to the new generations, so these new generations know what can be done from “a waste”: “a noble and appreciated material”.

For several years it has been a pleasure for me, every time more, to participate in the Congresses with young blood, from university fellows to scientist; the tanner is not a craftsman any more, the tanner already belongs to a technical and innovative industry, thanks to his effort, to the university and to the innovation.

I wish that the XXXI Congress of the International Union of Leather Technologists & Chemists Societies coincide the experience and this young and scientist blood, I repeat my invitation to you to Valencia.

According to the Organising Committee, the Congress will take place within three points:

• Establishing a forum where the most recent advances of innovation will be presented.

• Establishing a forum of idea exchange and possible collaboration between developed countries and developing countries.

• Establishing a design for technology transfer between researchers and companies.

Let me extend the invitation, in a social point of view, to visit the city of Valencia, on the Spanish cities that has developed more in lately. Centre of great events and with optimal communication infrastructures. Valencia means culture, art, history, fashion and nature.

INVITATION FROM IULTCS

Our leather industry is a green and sustainable sector due to the fact that we are transforming the by-product left by human society into the beautiful articles that they enjoy the use of. But this industry is now facing the challenges from competitions of other sectors, attention of environmental protection, and increasing quality requirement of leather products.

Therefore, we have to continuously input new scientific ideas and novel technologies into our industry to bring about steady improvement of leather trade. This strategy strongly requires extensive academic communications of global leather technologies and chemists. The IULTCS Congress is the best platform for the purpose. So, on behalf of the IULTCS Executive Committee, it gives me great pleasure to invite you to attend the 31th IULTCS Congress to be held in Valencia in 2011.
